Pest Identified
Why Biological Control Works
Predators and trap crops don't eliminate a pest, they manage it. The goal isn't a zero-bug garden, it's tipping the balance so predators keep the population low enough that damage stays minor. That's a different mindset than spraying, which tries to kill everything at once.
Trap crops work by being more attractive, not by being poisonous. Blue Hubbard squash pulls squash bugs and cucumber beetles away from your real crop simply because the pests prefer it. Planted around the perimeter, it acts as a decoy, and you can treat or remove just that sacrificial planting instead of your whole harvest.
Release beneficial insects at dusk, after watering. Most beneficial insects, ladybugs included, fly during the day looking for food, so releasing them at night gives them a chance to settle in and start hunting before they're tempted to fly off looking elsewhere.
